1. In Deutschland müssen die Schüler keine Uniform tragen.
2. In Germany pupils have most of their lessons in the same classroom and the teachers come to them. They move to other rooms for biology, music, sport, physics and chemistry. In England it is the poor pupils who have to move classrooms with their heavy bags!!
3. In Bad Windsheim beginnt die Schule um 7.30 und endet normalerweise um 12.30 Uhr. An bestimmten Tagen ist auch nachmittags Unterricht. In England beginnt die Schule um 8.45 Uhr und endet um 15.15 Uhr.
4. In Bramhall we eat our lunch at school. We either buy food in the canteen or bring it from home. My German friend does not always eat at school, but if he is hungry he can buy food to eat mid-morning.
5. In England kommen die Schüler mit 11/12 in die Sekundarstufe. Aber in Deutschland kommen die Schüler mit 10/11 ins Gymnasium.
6. In Stockport you leave High School at the age of 16 years. If you want to learn more you can then go to college. In Germany, in “Gymnasien”, you can stay on until 18 years if you want. It is like this in some parts of England, too.
7. In England gibt es mehr Fächer als in Deutschland. Eins von ihnen ist Technologie. Mir gefiel Technologie. Aber manche Sachen, die in Technologie behandelt werden, gibt es bei uns zum Beispiel auch in Kunst.
8. We have talked about discipline and we think things are similar in both countries. It depends on individual teachers more than anything.
9. Die Schulen sind von der Größe her sehr verschieden. BHS hat 1520 Schüler und GWSG hat ungefähr 600 Schüler. Das kommt daher, dass Bramhall High School eine Comprehensive School ist. Das heißt, dass alle Schüler in dieselbe Schule kommen und nicht in Hauptschule und Gymnasium aufgeteilt werden.
10. In BHS the lessons last for one hour and at GWSG they are 45 minutes long. This means that in England we have 5 lessons per day and in Germany they have 6 lessons per day.
11. In beiden Ländern sind 13 Wochen Ferien im Jahr.
12. Class sizes in England are 30 pupils except for subjects like technology, music and drama. In Germany class size varies between 20 and 30 pupils.
13. Die Menge der Hausaufgaben ist ungefähr gleich, aber es hängt auch von den Lehrern ab. Manche Lehrer geben mehr Hausaufgaben und manche weniger.
14. Both schools have extracurricular activities like sport and music.
15. Wenn Kinder die Klasse nicht bestehen, müssen sie wiederholen. Und wenn sie sehr begabt sind, können sie eine Klasse überspringen.
16. In BHS some subjects are taught in sets according to ability and others are taught to a mixed range of abilities. This does not happen at GWSG as it is already selective in who attends there.
